Three disciplines, one continuous data flow

From the machine to the cloud — manufacturing data becomes traceable decisions.

01

SAP Digital Manufacturing

Cloud MES — from requirements analysis through the asset model to productive operation. Integration with SAP S/4HANA and SAP ERP via SAP BTP and Cloud Integration.

02

Shopfloor connectivity

Connect machines reliably: OPC UA, MQTT with Sparkplug B, SCADA and edge gateways. Clean ISA-95 data models instead of data silos.

NEW 03

AI object recognition

Automatically check parts, defects and completeness — results flow back via OPC UA directly into MES systems such as SAP Digital Manufacturing.

04

MES selection & advisory

Vendor-neutral consulting for SMEs: from around 190 MES systems on the German market, find the reliable, effective and cost-efficient one — and accompany the rollout together with the vendor.

Service · MES selection

Independent MES selection for SMEs

The market is hard to navigate: Germany alone has around 190 MES systems with very different feature spectrums. MDVS advises vendor-neutrally — we find the system that truly fits your processes, not the one with the loudest marketing.

The three guiding questions of selection

Reliable

Operational stability, solid references, reachable support and the long-term viability of the provider.

Effective

Fits your processes and covers exactly the functions you need — without overloading you with unused modules.

Cost-efficient

Realistic total cost of ownership (TCO) across licence, operation and maintenance — right-sized instead of over-engineered.

In-house product · MESlight

MESlight — a lean MES for the shopfloor

Not every plant needs a two-year programme to finally see what happens on the shopfloor. MESlight is the in-house product of MDVS, built on SAP CAP and Fiori Elements — order execution, machine data, andon and OEE for plants that want transparency without rolling out a corporate landscape.

MESlight · Schlankes MES für die Fertigung
What is inside
  • Order execution for discrete and process manufacturing: create, release, confirm
  • Machine connectivity via OPC UA, MQTT, HTTP or file — booking manual, proposed or automatic
  • SAP standard where it carries: SAP CAP, Fiori Elements, OData v4 and draft handling
  • ERP connection standalone, directly to SAP S/4HANA or through SAP Integration Suite
  • One codebase, all platforms: SQLite, PostgreSQL and SAP HANA Cloud — on premise or on SAP BTP
  • Five languages: German, English, Czech, Polish, Spanish
When MESlight fits

As a solid bridge until SAP Digital Manufacturing goes live — or permanently, for plants that do not need a corporate-scale MES. No extra framework that nobody will maintain five years from now.

Connect machines — clean, standard-compliant, secure

The link between the line and the MES determines data quality. MDVS connects machines across vendors, models the data to ISA-95 and ensures events reliably arrive where they are needed.

Machine & line connectivity

OPC UA including address space mapping, connecting PLCs such as Siemens S7-1500 (DB blocks) and SAP Plant Connectivity (PCo).

Eventing & Messaging

MQTT with Sparkplug B: well-designed topic structure, birth/death certificates and store-and-forward for resilient data flows.

SCADA & Edge

Ignition SCADA, edge gateways and protocol bridging on industrial PC or Raspberry Pi — close to the machine.

Data models & standards

Modelling to ISA-95 and B2MML as well as the asset/structure/indicator model for SAP Digital Manufacturing.

Secure connectivity

Certificates, network segmentation and in-house CA. Sensitive process and image data can remain entirely within the plant.

Data condensing & OEE

Machine data becomes a machine logbook, OEE metrics and dashboards — the basis for decisions.

AI object recognition that talks to your line

Cameras capture, AI evaluates, OPC UA connects, the MES decides. Images become actionable events in the production process — in real time and fully traceable.

Record

Result in the MES (SAP DM)

↺ Closed loop — the MES reacts to every recognition result
Use cases
  • Completeness checks of assemblies and kits
  • Surface & defect detection without elaborate special inspection
  • Presence & position detection of parts before the next step
  • Readability of markings such as Data Matrix Code and labels
  • Analytics & trends over time instead of individual spot checks
Privacy & operation

Inference runs locally on edge hardware (e.g. industrial PC or Jetson) — image data never leaves your plant. Only the result is handed to the MES: OK/NOK, class, confidence and timestamp. This keeps quality data audit-proof within the production context.

The engineering practice

Dipl.-Ing. Gerald Kliem

Owner · Solution Architect · Developer

MDVS IT-Solution is an independent engineering practice for manufacturing IT. For over 25 years Gerald Kliem has been connecting the shopfloor with SAP — from SAP MII and SAP ME to SAP Digital Manufacturing, SAP BTP and SAP S/4HANA.

As a technical consultant, architect and developer he works close to the code and close to the line: OPC UA, MQTT, SCADA, clean data models — and now AI object recognition as a closed loop with the MES.

International

Manufacturing is international today

Production projects no longer stop at the border. Plants, supply chains and teams are spread across Europe — and IT has to keep pace. With international project experience I support the IT of manufacturing companies even when the production process takes place in Poland or the Czech Republic — on site, remotely and in close coordination with local teams and vendors.
